Shaken
Baby Syndrome or Diagnostic Myth?
Advocates
promoting Shaken Baby
awareness would like you to believe that more children are violently shaken
and/ or abusively impacted each year.
However, one has to wonder if more infants and small children are
really in abusive situations or is there something
else going on?
Not
since the early 1980’s when alleged cases of sexual abuse grew at staggering
rates has America seen so many allegations, convictions or removed more
children from loving homes. In
fact, there are some grave similarities in cases of alleged
Shaken Baby Syndrome
- Diagnosed
by theories with no test data to confirm it’s actual existence.
(In fact, a series of articles by medical researchers actually
indicate that shaking alone does not cause injury.)
- Diagnosed
by medical practitioners who do not specialize in the field of pediatric
neuro-radiology, biomechanics, neurology, neuropathology, pathology,
neurosurgery, or anything remotely associated with the central nervous
system disorders. Absent a history of accidental trauma (e.g.
a serious car accident, a fall from a two story building) these practitioners
diagnose "child abuse."
Regardless
of the circumstances provided to the medical provider at the time a child
is brought into the hospital, the all too frequent diagnosis is Shaken
Baby Syndrome.
If, in the evaluation of an infant, subdural hematomas, retinal
bleeding and/ or broken bones are discovered, the odds are highly probably
that the person who last was caring for the child will be accused and
criminally charged with felony child abuse.
